The Flower Belt Bag
Recently I’ve gotten tons of positive feedback on my Granny Belt Bag pattern, and it has meant so much to me! But it also got me thinking about what other fun belt bags can I come up with. Because, if we’re being honest here… there’s no such thing as too many belt bags.
So I present to you: The Flower Power Belt Bag! It’s a fun variation on the initial design… but this time, with Summer in mind! These bags are simple, quick, and beginner-friendly. So let’s get started!

African Flower Granny Square (make 4)
Start with a magic ring (tutorial here)
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first Dc), Dc 1, ch 1, Repeat *2 dc, ch 1* 7 more times. Tie off and change to the second color.
Round 2: Start in any chain one space from the previous row, ch 3 (counts as first dc). Dc 1 in the same space. In the following ch 1 space, *dc 2, ch 2, dc 2*. Repeat 6 times, working in each ch 1 space of the previous row. In the last space, Dc 2 and Ch 2, tie off. Round 3 will be worked in the same color as round 2.
Round 3: Starting in any ch 2 space of the previous round, ch 3 (acts as first Dc). Dc 6 more in the same space. Repeat *Dc 7* 7 more times, working into each ch 2 space of the previous round. Tie off and change back to the color from round 1.
Round 4: Change back to the color from Round 1, starting at the end of the previous round. Sc 7 in the top of each Dc from the previous row. Long Dc into the space between DCs from round 2. Repeat *Dc 7, Long dc* 7 more times, and tie off.
Round 5: Switch to the border color and begin at the top of the Long Dc from the previous round. Chain one. Sc 3, Hdc 2, Dc 2. To form the corner of the square, work each of the following into the next stitch: 2 Triple crochet, Ch 2, 2 Triple crochet. Repeat *2 Dc, 2 Hdc, 7 Sc, 2 Hdc, 2 Dc, corner: 2 Tr, Ch 2, 2 Tr* 3 more times, finishing off the square with 2 Dc, 2 Hdc, and 4 Sc. Do not tie off.
Round 6: Ch 3 (acts as first Dc). Dc 9, and into the corner work *Dc 2, Ch 2, Dc 2*. Repeat *Dc 18, corner: Dc 2, Ch 2, Dc 2* 3 more times. Dc 9 to finish off the round.
Assembly
We’re going to join each square using a whip stitch, so get your yarn needle ready!
Begin by situating three squares like the picture below. Starting with the center square, join with both neighboring squares. The lines shown in blue indicate where you will be stitching.
The black dotted lines indicate where you will be folding the outer squares. After folding the outer squares, turn your work over and join the fourth square. To join, whip stitch along the blue lines shown in the diagram below. Finish off by sewing the bottom shut.
I like to finish off the body of the bag with a round of double crochets for a cleaner look. To do so, start with any stitch at the top of the bag. Ch 3 (acts as first Dc). Dc in each stitch around, and tie off.
Crossbody Strap
I’m using the bean stitch for the stap because it gives it a really fun woven look!
A quick bean stitch overview: To work one stitch, yarn over and insert the hook into the first stitch. *Pull up a loop and yarn over*, repeat three times for a total of seven loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through each loop, Ch 1.
Row 1: Start by joining into one corner of the bag. Chain two, *Bean stitch, Ch 1*, repeat 2 times, Ch 1, turn.
End of row 1
Row 2-70: *Bean St, ch 1* 3 times, Ch 1 and turn.
Repeat until you reach your desired strap length or 70 rows.
And that concludes the Flower Belt Bag. Thank you so much for following along, I hope you love the finished project! If you want to share your creation with me, feel free to tag me in your Instagram post (links below). I always love to see your projects!
