Crochet Inspiration: 3 Places to Find Inspiration for Your Next Crochet Project

There are few things worse than wanting to crochet, but having absolutely zero idea as to what you want to work on. When I initially started crocheting, I wasted so much time endlessly scrolling through patterns…only to be left feeling completely uninspired. But now that I’ve been crocheting for over five years, I can tell you exactly what my problem was back then: I was looking externally for inspiration, instead of internally. I’m a big believer that real, lasting inspiration is something that you have to learn to find within yourself! But before we continue, I want to be clear that searching for crochet patterns has its place in the world (I still do it all the time!).

Let’s talk about my favorite places to find some inspiration for future crochet projects. I’m sure that at least one of these will help you stay inspired! Stay tuned until the end of this post, where I’ll share some of my favorite tips for keeping the crochet inspiration flowing. Let’s get into it!

01: Interior Design

Chances are there’s at least one interior design style that really speaks to you, or makes you feel happy! Maybe it’s midcentury, traditional, or cottage core. For me, it’s a blend of all three. Most importantly, these design styles (and the items you find in them) can help to inspire your next project or pattern. For example, if you’re inspired by midcentury design, you might want to consider something like an abstract-style blanket!

Want to know the best part? Getting crochet inspiration from items that aren’t crochet can help you create an original design, too. Looking toward vintage style and non-crochet decor is a great way to come up with a completely new pattern! Don’t be afraid to think outside of the box, too, because that’s where all of the best ideas come from.

02: Nature

One of my favorite places to get a little crochet inspiration is out in nature! Observing the textures and colors of the outdoors can help spark inspiration for your next project while also serving as a great mindfulness exercise. Being in nature is a win-win if you’re anything like me!

And if there’s a certain place that makes you feel inspired, like the beach or the mountains, that’s a great place to start! Ask yourself…

  • What is it that I like about this environment?
  • Are there any colors/textures I can incorporate into my project to capture the location?
  • What type of project suits my idea best (decor, garments, blankets)?

03: Pinterest

And of course, you can’t forget about Pinterest! If you’re wanting to make something specific and have all the details neatly laid out for you, Pinterest is amazing. There are so many awesome crocheters on Pinterest who share their own patterns. But as helpful as Pinterest is, it’s important to remember that you don’t need to limit yourself to the designs you find on the internet. You are more than capable of creating an amazing design, and I really believe that!

Crochet Inspiration Tips

If you’re wanting to think up a fresh, new design for your next crochet project, I want you to remember this: crochet inspiration isn’t something you can force, but it is something you can encourage! With that being said, I want to share some tips for encouraging that inspiration and creativity:

  • Take your time working on crochet projects, there’s no rush!
  • Don’t force yourself to finish a project if you don’t like it. Let that guide you!
  • Take breaks often!
  • Do things that make you happy! Because the things that make you happy will often inspire you.

I hope you found this information helpful! Finding crochet inspiration is still something I struggle with from time to time. I hope you find the inspiration you’re looking for! Until next time, happy crocheting!
